Paving the way for a sustainable future
To deliver a truly useful and expandable solution I worked closely with the business team to understand how the existing solution worked, and how that should be reflected in the digital space. During the research phase, I looked at other platforms that provide the same type of service to uncover valuable features. I also gather feedback from existing and potential users to collect meaningful insights and ideas for the dream charging solution.

Laying the foundations
As Electric Vehicles start to be commonplace, more businesses are looking to offer charging solutions to their employees. I recognized the need to create a holistic experience to provide an independent solution for business owners (admins) to run the service, as well as final EV owners. Major points of friction included setting up a charging station, and starting a charging session. Our first task was to map out the experience for the two profiles based on the business, technology, and business insights gathered in the previous phase.
Approachable Design
As I defined the flows and user profiles I created wireframes of key screens to envision the final experience. With these skeletons defined I used the brand’s Look and Feel as inspiration to create a clean set of elements and components optimized for desktop and mobile.

An electrifying experience
My mobile design solution placed starting a charging session at the center of the EV Charge experience. To create a truly holistic experience, I had to consider various setting up charger scenarios. Now users can find or scan chargers, schedule charging sessions, and follow their active session.
Taking the EV Charge solution from the whiteboard to mobile screens meant incorporating efficient solutions to pay for the service on demand and see updated activity statistics.
Business-powered
We partnered with businesses that would be running the initiative to design a comprehensive dashboard alongside administrative features. Through the platform, business owners can manage the service they offer to their employees by adding users, managing permissions, and tracking activity and expenses.
The Outcomes
I spent 3 months defining and designing the EV Charge app, setting a solid foundation with core functionalities so the app keeps growing steadily and organic in the future. The result was a simplified app and new experience that increased the value of the service.
