CopyCart

Copy Cart is a video-sharing social media platform that helps users find their favorite products in a video and purchase them from several stores at once. Through the platform, users can tag the products used in the videos so that others can easily find them online as they are featured in the video. During the 6-month project, I helped the team define the brand’s identity, detail the experience, and create the platform, considering the business’s priorities and customer needs.

THE PROBLEM

Copy Cart wanted to create a social app that felt familiar to the users, yet that was different enough to stand out in the market space. Users had to be able to post videos, add products to the videos, favorite items from other posts, and buy from various platforms.

Research

To kick off the project, I chatted with the stakeholder and four social media users to identify their needs and preferences. I have benched marked various social media platforms to analyze trends and best practices.

As social media platforms fast evolve, users reported content drives most of their social media choices. With the rise of Tik Tok respondents mentioned they prefer short videos and consume mostly inspirational content, rather than friend’s posts. Respondents looked for minimal cognitive overload in the navigation, as the content kept most of their attention.

Definition & Ideation

The insights gathered and synthesized in the Discovery Phase, I started designing the app’s structure through an app map to allow me to visualize how individual pages and sections relate to each other and how users navigate through the website.

App Map

We wanted to ensure easy access to the main functionalities to minimize browsing time.

Design

Based on the log the client had already developed we started exploring different pages of the app to agree on a look and feel.

VIDEO EDITOR

The main drive of the business was to allow users to post videos and tag online products so other social media users could purchase from the link and therefore gain the business gain a commission. Even though the process of tagging is complex posting had to feel simple to the users. When uploading a video frames are automatically suggested using artificial intelligence software. When selecting a frame users can press (+) to add previously tagged products or find a new one online. Through analytics, we concluded most users purchase products from the top Google Search results, so I created a tab system highlighting those for easy accessibility. Once products are selected their name can be changed, and they can be deleted and added as needed.

FEED AND VIDEOS

Posted videos appear on the feed where users can visualize the video and see the products that have been tagged through the video. From the videos, users can select products they are interested in and through the original link add them to the CopyCart cart, or saved them in their closet as favorites.

CHECKOUT

Users could select products from multiple stores and checkout directly with CopyCart for a delivery.
